Talent can be found throughout the Santa Rosa High School student population. Seniors Damian Wood and Isaac Hawks premiered their film I Am Nobody at the SRHS auditorium on Feb. 20. In the hour before the film played, people waited excitedly in the lobby of the auditorium. A strikingly large audience came to the viewing, which surprised both of the creators. From friends to family who drove two hours to get there, everyone was eager to get a look at the work of Wood and Hawks.
10 months in the making, the film had manifested into existence. Wood, the director, stated that “the process of reserving the auditorium was pretty easy. I talked to Pedri [the ArtQuest Video Arts teacher] and Ms. Delello, and they did the rest of the work. The hardest part was finding a time that worked for all the actors.” He also mentioned that they had reserved a date previously, but it didn’t work out. However, the process was relatively smooth overall.
Wood and Hawks individually greeted each of the many viewers. Donations of $5 were accepted to support the young developing artists, and the tips quickly piled up. Soon after, the crowd filled the seats, and the lights dimmed. Wood and Hawks entered the stage, and thanked the large crowd for coming to their first ever premiere.
The film follows the story of a foster child, played by senior Dalia Bugica, who took on the identity “Nobody,” finding redemption and overcoming the traumas of her past. Overall, I found the film to be an amazingly impressive student work, worthy of first place in a film competition. I recommend anyone that missed the premiere to get into contact with Wood or Hawks so you can see the film. It is truly a masterpiece that represents the best of the ArtQuest program.
The I Am Nobody film premiere was a spectacular success, with over 200 viewers coming to see their work. The event was definitely not one to miss, and it will go down in SRHS history as a momentous showing.
