As the seasons shift and we transition from one sports season to another, there are a few upcoming sports that you’ll want to take a look at. Some upcoming winter sports include soccer, wrestling and basketball, which tend to be a highlight of the year and we strongly encourage you to join a team or show up to the games and show your support.
First off, we have basketball. They start their season in early November, with tryouts beginning on Nov. 2 for both boys and girls. There are team meetings held at school during the week and the dates are announced during the morning announcements. We asked senior Payton Sansone about what it is like joining the team. “I thought that it was a great experience, and that it helped boost my confidence,” said Sansone. “I think people should join for that reason.”
Another upcoming sport is soccer. Their preseason starts in November and tryouts start on Nov. 2 for boys and Nov. 3 for girls. There will be announcements about where the team meetings will take place and what is needed to try out. Junior and former JV captain Jakob Mendoza said, “One benefit is that I learn how to play different playstyles with new people that I’m not familiar with, so we have to work that chemistry as a team and win as a team. Just do everything together.”
Finally, wrestling is starting soon, with their first practice on Nov. 2. Most practice schedules are held after school and it will be posted right before the season starts. You get to go to tournaments and travel to play opposing teams. The season is long and it is a great opportunity to get in some physical activity during the winter and a new way to make friends.
Winter sports are starting soon, and there are plenty of ways to get involved. Whether you join basketball, soccer or wrestling, you can stay active, make new friends and build collaboration skills. Come out and support your fellow Panther teams this winter!
