The summer is a long awaited breath of fresh air from the monotony of students’ lives. Warm weather, long days, fun activities and most importantly, no school. Summer break is prime time for families to go on exciting adventures and explore all that the world has to offer.
One of these students is junior Zoey Blake, who went to Spain, Switzerland, France and Italy. “The main reason for our trip was to hike the Tour du Mont Blanc, which is a 100-mile trip around a mountain called Mont Blanc,” said Blake. “Every day of hiking had gorgeous views and a lot of elevation, but my favorite part was being able to share those views with the people I care about.” Blake explained that in Spain she enjoyed seeing the architecture, on which she had an informed perspective after learning about it during the school year. “It was exciting to see Antoni Gaudí’s work in person,” said Blake. She also commented on how good the food was in Italy and Spain.
On the other side of the world, sophomore Peyton Patrick went to Sunriver, Oregon with her family. The group swam, rode ATVs, explored a cave and saw many beautiful views. “My favorite part of the trip was probably the ATVs or just having [my] family all together,” said Patrick.
But for some, traveling wasn’t all about sightseeing and relaxing. Senior Janelle Wanliss went to Texas for the USA Track and Field (USATF) Junior Olympics. She went with her parents on her club team, the West Coast Striders. “I was surrounded by the best athletes in the nation from 7-18 years old,” said Wanliss, and there she was also able to explore cities such as Houston and Austin. She explained that the experience made her even more excited and ready for the upcoming track season.
Two months of fun adventures from the students at Santa Rosa High School have come to a close, and now it’s time to get prepared for the fall and lock in for the start of the school year.
