On Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Santa Rosa High School Foundation held its 7th annual “Show & Shine” Car Show. The price for entrance may seem high at first glance, coming in at $40 for Foundation members and $45 for non-Foundation members, but the funds went to a good cause of supporting our high school’s museum and history, and the vibes that day were immaculate. Attendants also got an event T-shirt, lunch ticket and car magnet.
There was a very diverse collection of cars situated in the SRHS student parking lot, ranging from Camaros to Corvettes, and spanning decades from the 1930s to early 2000s. People spread chairs and tents across the campus, taking in the views and enjoying the moment. There was a raffle to participate in, which offered fun prizes.
According to former SRHS history teacher Art Horner, “This, I think, is our biggest [show].” Part of the reason that this car show was bigger than all of the others in the past is because of the fence. It forced the committee for the car show to decide to hold it in the student parking lot which is bigger than the past location which was the front lawn, as it is now blocked by the fence. “It’s actually really worked out, with the shade, and we ended up [where] we could fit a lot more cars,” Horner explained. This switch bumped the previous year’s car count of roughly 45 up to a total of around 70 to 75. Many of the people visiting the car show and participating in it were past alumni, which is why the museum was open for people to reflect on their past and reminisce in their feelings of nostalgia.
The car show generates lots of fun, but it’s also meant to generate money. The show collects revenue that the Foundation can use to help pay for school field trips and other financial help that SRHS may need.
Overall, it’s a fun event that is absolutely worth checking out next year if you’re looking to have a good time and see some incredible cars!
