With a new season of Santa Rosa High School girls’ volleyball comes new coaches. JV coach Emily Eaton and varsity coach Brooklyn Jackson are excited to get to know their players better as they each grow more comfortable in their first year coaching at SRHS.
Eaton has played volleyball since she was in the third grade. In the midst of getting her degree from Sonoma State University, Eaton played at the college for five seasons before graduating in 2021. Eventually, she was given the opportunity to coach here at SRHS. “While I was a bit hesitant and nervous at first, it was the best decision I’ve ever made,” said Eaton.
There are many things Eaton enjoys about being a coach. “I missed volleyball so much, and being able to pass my passion for the game down to younger generations is something that makes me so happy,” she said. “I love watching my athletes learn, have fun and turn into better players every day.”
At the age of 16, Jackson started coaching younger girls through her volleyball club back home. Now, even while being a full time student and volleyball player herself at Sonoma State University, Jackson has been making time to coach the varsity team at Santa Rosa High School.
Jackson became a coach for multiple reasons: “I really enjoy meeting all the different personalities of the girls I work with, and watching each one of them get better while having fun is really cool.” Though, like Eaton, she was hesitant to coach at SRHS after hearing they needed a coach, she decided to go for it, knowing that seeing all of these girls have fun playing her favorite sport is worth taking this coaching offer even with her busy schedule.
As the season progresses, Eaton and Jackson look forward to seeing their girls implement the hard work they put in at practice into games and watching them compete. Throughout this time, Eaton and Jackson will also be forming stronger connections with their teams. Be sure to go support the girls’ volleyball teams at their upcoming games!
