One of the many new additions to the Santa Rosa High School student handbook this year is the requirement for students to wear ID badges around campus. During orientation, students received their physical ID and a lanyard but aren’t limited to using only what they got at orientation.
Some Panthers have taken this opportunity to be creative with their lanyards by buying or making their own. Other students have pinned their IDs to their shirts rather than using a lanyard.
When sophomore Ace Saunders found out about the ID policy, she decided to make a custom lanyard with her friend. She made the lanyard with various crystal beads and a necklace chain, keeping her personal style in mind. “The colors are heavily influenced by the colors I wear every day,” said Saunders.
Junior Eve Hager got her lanyard from her sister. “I love doing cutesy stuff, but at the same time when I’m wearing a more gothic outfit, I like having it because it’ll just be like this cute little thing I get to wear,” Hager said. Her lanyard is Hello Kitty themed because she likes the flexibility the colorful lanyard gives her.
Junior Robyn Roskos crocheted their lanyard because the one they got from the school wasn’t ideal. “I wanted one that was comfortable, so I was like, ‘Okay, I can just crochet something,’” said Roskos.
As soon as junior Theo Richards heard about the ID policy, he knew that he wanted a cool lanyard. “I figured that if it’s something that needs to be on my person at all times, it can at least be cute,” said Richards, who received his Sanrio-themed lanyard as a gift from his aunt.
Customizing your lanyard is a great way to show your style, whether by making your own or finding one that best fits you.
