Monty Spirit Week

Every year Santa Rosa High School participates in the acclaimed Monty Spirit Week, which leads up to the big football game against Montgomery High School. The spirit week increases excitement for the game among SRHS students and honors the historic rivalry between Montgomery and Santa Rosa. This year’s spirit week fell on Nov. 3-7, with the game on the final day of the spirit week.

On the first day, 2K versus Y2K, some students dressed up with pieces from thrift stores and trends from the 2000s by styling cute tops, skinny or bootcut jeans and Uggs with flamboyant belts and jewelry. Others wore their favorite basketball team’s jersey with shorts.

The following day was Tacky Tourist Toes Out Tuesday with the theme of sandals, bucket hats, tropical button-downs and leis. Many, such as sophomore Thao Pham, took inspiration from “Pinterest and my parent’s closet” for this day. Others who didn’t participate in the Tacky Tourist look chose to just have Toes Out and wear some form of open-toed shoes.

Monty Nerd Day, which fell on Wednesday, was noticeably more popular than all of the other days with many passers-by sporting red clothing and some wearing glasses.

Thursday was Black Out Day, the easiest to participate in, and was therefore worn inadvertently by many students. The campus was flooded with a dark assortment of hoodies, vests and jeans that were also a nod to the chilly weather during the end of football season.

Out of all students who celebrated this spirit week, the seniors were by far the most lively. Senior Joslyn Knight exclaimed, “Santa Rosa is better than Monty; everything about [Monty] is nerdy, from their walk to their mascot!”

Lastly, Friday was Extreme Orange and Black, the most official day to show your ultimate Panther pride. The day ended with a phenomenal 28-6 win by the Panthers against the Vikings at the football game.

The rivalry between Santa Rosa and Montgomery is a long-lasting tradition that dates back decades with many more games and spirit weeks to come from both schools. We can’t wait to see what spirit days and activities ASB has in store for us in the future!
