Indoor or outdoor rallies

School rallies are one of the most enjoyable parts of attending SRHS. They are a true testament to the spirit that Santa Rosa High has. Since COVID, rallies have been held in a few different locations—both outdoor and indoor— but which one is the best?

During the 2021-22 school year and the 2022-23 year, we had a couple of rallies outside on Nevers Field. Since there are speakers only on the west side of the bleachers, these rallies were not ideal for underclassmen, who often couldn’t hear what was going on. Junior Vy Hoang, who often helps run the rallies, said, “I feel like the football field makes it really hard to hype people up.” Because not everyone was able to enjoy the rallies that happened outside, the football field is the worst location to hold rallies.

Once COVID was less of a concern, rallies were held in the South Gym once again. Here we are able to have black lights and loud music. The crowd is a lot more engaged in the South Gym; however, the school must be split in two because of the seating capacity. The downside is that two rallies have to be held, so friends don’t always get to sit together. Also, ASB has to do the same rally twice over, which is an inconvenience to them. The South Gym isn’t a bad location for a rally, but it also isn’t the best.

The best place for rallies at SRHS isn’t actually at SRHS, but at the Santa Rosa Junior College campus next door. The recent one held there was very enjoyable for students and staff. Hoang said, “We got a lot of positive feedback from students and teachers when we held the rally at the JC.” The whole school came so that the rally could be longer and people could sit with their friends no matter what class they were in. The wide seats in the JC gym also made the seating feel a lot less cramped and overall made the experience much less overwhelming.

The facility at the SRJC solves the problems that rally options on the SRHS campus have, making it a great place for all of our future rallies!
