Guide to spirit wear

When you stroll the quad on a Friday, an ocean of orange and black flows across the concrete and between the picnic tables as music blasts. This display of school spirit goes beyond just clothing, as many people also wear face paint and orange and black necklaces and bracelets.

Showing a great deal of spirit is no problem for students who don’t own a lot of orange and black clothing. Senior Dacey Howe decked out her overalls over the summer with paws and bubble letters to show her panther pride in orange and black. “I enjoy painting and felt this was a good way to express my creative side,” said Howe.

Others, such as junior Olivia Beck, painted her and her friends’ faces with black and orange stars and paws. “I choose to show my pride with face paint because I feel it lifts everyone’s pride up on Friday,” Beck said. Junior Issac Hawks, wearing an orange paw painted by Beck, decides to show his panther pride “because of the accepting community and its strong moral values.” Face painting happens occasionally in the quad and at rallies; check the Santa Rosa High School Instagram page to stay updated on whether face painting or fashion shows are happening at lunch!

If you step into the hallways of our main building at the beginning of class periods on Fridays, flocks of students will flood out of their classrooms to leap up and down as they sing our classic fight song. Like senior Dean Jahnsen, many of them wearing bright orange traffic vests. “Dressing in orange and black every Friday really helps boost our community morale and makes our school one big family,” said Jahnsen, our school’s ASB vice president.

Spirit gear can be purchased at the business office, and word around campus is that if Dr. Mark Ryan catches you looking extra spirited, you can earn some Positive Panther Points.
