Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a first-person shooter game that came out in late October of 2024. The game was co-developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, and was published by Activision. It is the 21st game in the Call of Duty franchise. The game brought back the casual feel of Call of Duty, with prestige rewards and zombies actually being enjoyable. It also brought newer game modes like Warzone and Hardcore. The game is currently priced at $70 online, with an upgrade pack adding $30 to the total.
The opinion on this game varies. Fans often say the gameplay in multiplayer is rather so-so, with shotguns and overpowered “meta weapons” ruining newer experiences. “The game is fun but I feel like the camo grind is way too annoying,” said senior Jacob Reynaga. Yet the game offers 16 new maps, combining the core six player team with traditional four player sized maps. A key highlight is the “Omni Movement” system, allowing players to make their characters sprint, crouch, slide, dive and walk in any direction they please. This new fluid movement enhances maneuverability and makes the game a lot more interesting.
The Black Ops 6 campaign takes place in the early 1990s, during the Gulf War. Players are immersed in the world of CIA operatives like Frank Woods, who explores a conspiracy that infiltrates his life and his agency. The missions that are provided offer players multiple ways of completing their objectives. From stealth infiltrations to large-scale firefights, the Middle Eastern locations and maps offer a sense of combat immersiveness.
The Zombies mode also makes a very notable return with two new maps. Players can expect the same beloved round-based style but with fresh content and challenges along the way. Easter eggs and mini stories for each map provide the player with a lot of rewards to unlock and a lot of difficult boss fights.
With more content coming with the season one update, we’ll have to see how this Black Ops game performs. It has already combined classic elements with new innovative ways to improve Call of Duty. The game has done its best to ensure a rich and replayable experience throughout all of its game modes. The developers have really outperformed themselves while staying true to the franchise’s legacy.
