FIRST GIRLS SOCCER GAME: On Thursday November 18th, the lady panthers soccer team played Vintage at home. This is the first girls soccer game of the season and all of the girls are excited for more games. Unfortunately, the girls lost, but all of the girls showed good effort the whole time. “I think the season will go really well for us. We have a lot of strong girls who are very eager to get out there and represent our school,” said senior and varsity player Audrey Johnson. Go to Nevers Field to watch the next home soccer game.

With fall coming to an end and winter beginning, Santa Rosa High School’s winter sports are also starting. One of the winter sports starting up is soccer. Both boys and girls soccer begins in November.
The girls and boys soccer teams held tryouts during the week of November 1st on Nevers Field. However, the boys soccer games do not begin until December 2nd, while the girl’s games start on November 10th. For many players on both teams this is their first full season in two years, mainly owing to restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Half of the players on this year’s varsity girls soccer team are seniors. The upcoming season is their last chance to play on a team with all of the people they have been playing with since freshman year, as well as it being their last year to represent their high school. The bond that the seniors have formed with each other, helps them play better and will positively affect their season this year.
Senior and varsity player Audrey Johnson has high hopes for the upcoming season, “I think the season will go really well for us. We have a lot of strong girls who are very eager to get out there and represent our school.”
Since the lady panther soccer team has not played any games yet they are making goals for the season based on the way that they practice together. One of senior and varsity player Madilyn Walker’s goals is “to not only better myself but also my teammates.”
The boys soccer season is also starting up. Sebastian King Gile, a junior and JV soccer player, also has high hopes for the boys soccer team. “I think [the season] will go well because the success of this season will be measured with how much we improve and I think this team will improve a lot.” The JV team has a good mix of players and there is a lot of room for improvement. Some of the players on the JV team have never played together before, so they still need time to figure out how to play together and be a team.
King Gile is really excited for the season to begin. His favorite part of the season is when, “you get right into the middle of the season and you are having games every week and you get to really play all the time.”
