During Joe Biden’s Presidential campaign, he and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris had very clear plans for tackling the pandemic upon entering office. As of December 2020, there have been more than 280,000 deaths and 15 million confirmed cases nationwide. Though the state of California has already gone through a full lockdown, cases still continue to rise. Governor Gavin Newsom has made it clear that the state’s safety is a top priority and that everyone must stay protected from COVID-19. As of now, Dr. Fauci, an American Physician, has stated that the vaccine will be released to the general public in the beginning of spring, starting with health care workers who are on the frontlines battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first problem of COVID-19 is a financial one. Biden believes that, ¨We must spend whatever it takes, without delay, to meet public health needs and deal with the mounting economic consequences. The federal government must act swiftly and aggressively to help protect and support our families, small businesses, first responders and caregivers essential to help us face this challenge, those who are most vulnerable to health and economic impacts.”
Senior Mackenzie Euckland spoke to me on this subject and said, ¨I think that Biden will do a way better job of keeping things under control and remind people how dangerous this virus could be.¨ President Trump was diagnosed with COVID-19, and he continued to go out and not wear a mask. I asked Euckland about this, and she said, ¨That was ridiculous. After he was diagnosed he said to not let COVID-19 control [us], but people are dying from it.¨
Biden plans to establish a permanent, professional, resourced public health and first responder system that protects people and does rapid testing. Biden has also already gotten both parties in congress to agree on an emergency plan for COVID-19. As of now, no information has been given out to the public about this plan, but Biden and Harris have confirmed this bill has been approved, and will be put into effect. As Biden and Harris take office, they both have a clear goal for this country, and that’s to keep everyone healthy and safe, and for our country to come back together as one.
