Since the arrival of winter, we’ve all been preparing for the cold, rainy weather by searching for comfortable clothes to wear. There’s never been a year when I’ve been prepared for winter weather right away. The first cold day comes around, I look in my closet and I only see tank tops, t-shirts and shorts; and all of a sudden I’m not prepared for the cold at all. For those who have a similar issue and need to know where in Santa Rosa to get quality, inexpensive clothes for Winter fast, I’ve got you covered.
An excellent place to begin your winter wardrobe shopping is thrift stores. Santa Rosa is riddled with thrift stores where you can find anything you’re looking for for a low price. Now, don’t get me wrong, thrifting is not for the faint of heart. It may take hours of scouring multiple shops to find the perfect piece or pieces for you. But those who are creative and see the potential in more unconventional clothing, are likely to have excellent luck thrifting.
Goodwill is probably one of the more widely known thrift stores. Goodwill stores are often pretty large, with many racks of clothing in which you are sure to find some great pieces. I’ve had the most luck finding jackets at Goodwill. They are likely to have great coats with majorly marked down prices. Sometimes the jackets you find can look old, or worn in, which more often than not can make a piece look better; just make sure to give everything a nice wash before you wear it. I highly recommend to everyone that you venture to all sections of the store, no matter what gender it is labeled. Goodwill will also likely have fun accessories: cute sunglasses, belts, bags and shoes. Other thrift stores in Santa Rosa are: Crossing the Jordan, Heavenly Treasures and Salvation Army. Good thrift stores in Petaluma are: Thrifty Hippy and Sacks Hospice Thrift Store. Thrifting is a great option if you prefer to dress uniquely, and not follow quickly changing trends. It’s also a more environmentally friendly option.
Some other great stores to find affordable clothing are stores like Marshalls, TJMaxx and JCPenney. Most of these stores should have abundant options this time of year, of coats, sweaters, jackets and pants. Marshalls also has boots and other shoes for winter as well as accessories. Junior Katie Stebbins has luck going to Marshalls. She said, “It’s a good place to get nicer clothes for half the price. My favorite sweater was priced at $120 by the original company, but it was priced at $20 at Marshalls”.
Recently Target has been stocked with plenty of cute trendy clothing as well. I find that Target can be great for basics, like plain t-shirts, long sleeves or tank tops. But they also carry plenty of statement pieces: dresses, jackets and sweaters in interesting styles.
Nordstrom Rack has a great selection of clothes from quality brands but with low prices. I’ve seen cashmere sweaters there for less than $20. I’ve also had a lot of luck finding jeans there. They’ve got marked down Levi’s and other pants of all styles: high waisted, low waisted, straight leg, bell bottom, skinny jeans, baggy jeans, everything.
My last suggestion is to go to an Abercrombie and Fitch store. Yes, they are known for having more expensive clothes than the other stores I have mentioned, but sometimes it is worth the money when the pieces you buy will last a long time. Even though I would not go there for all my winter clothing, because it is a little too expensive in my opinion, they are great for winter jackets or coats. I bought a jacket there that was warm and not too puffy and it lasted me three years until it didn’t fit me anymore. This winter I will be going back to the store to get another one of those jackets and I recommend you do the same.
I hope these suggestions can make your shopping this winter a little easier. And remember, when you are shopping for clothes, don’t buy anything unless you absolutely love it. You want every dollar you spend to count. Happy shopping!
