Making gifts at home this Valentine’s Day is a great way to show your appreciation for your loved ones. Not only do homemade gifts show effort and thoughtfulness, but you can also personalize them to make them even more meaningful. Here are some ways you can show your love this Valentine’s Day. Many of these can also be made in a time-sensitive manner and don’t require much extra material.
The first homemade gift you can make is a jar full of stars/hearts. This origami craft is super easy to make and is extremely personalizable. You can buy the paper off of Amazon or in person at Walmart. You can also cut strips of paper by yourself and optionally color them in. Here is a tutorial on how to fold these into stars. Here is a tutorial on how to make the heart version. You can write short messages inside with memories or just express your appreciation and put them all in a mason jar to finish them off.
Baking is always a good way to show your love. Some things you could bake include cookies, homemade chocolates, mini lunch box cakes (linked here), brownies, and cupcakes. There is a wide variety of baked goods that you could personalize. Some cultural desserts you could try making include mochi (easier than you would think) and baklava. The internet is full of recipes and resources for baking.
Even if art isn’t your thing, you can try your hand at painting. Paint kits and canvases are available in stores like Target, Ross, Marshalls, TjMaxx, etc, and you can paint a memory, an inside joke, something they love, or anything else that makes it personal. If you want to elevate your paintings, you can also try painting on other things like glass (you can buy picture frames from the dollar tree and use the glass from there), old records, clothes, plain phone cases, etc. Other crafty gifts include making matching keychains and jewelry (out of clay, wire, beads, etc. There are a bunch of videos covering a large variety of styles), or having fun with clay in general. You can make a customized sculpture, jewelry platter, bowl, plate, vase, or mug.
An easily meaningful gift you could put together is a photo album or a photo box. There are plenty of photo albums in stores like Target, Ross, Marshall, Tjmaxx, etc. If you don’t want to go out to buy an album, you can also make your own journals that you can glue or tape pictures into. You can write special memories paired with these pictures you can print from any computer and personalize how you like with drawings, doodles, etc.
Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity to express your love and appreciation for those around you. Hopefully you are inspired to make something special!
